PE pipes are widely used in water and electricity installation, weak current engineering and other scenarios due to their corrosion resistance and good flexibility. However, many construction personnel or DIY enthusiasts often face problems such as difficulty in threading and damage to wires due to improper operation when facing PE pipe threading. In fact, by mastering the correct process and skills, PE pipe threading can be more efficient.
The first is tool preparation. The tools required are: threader (glass fiber or steel, selected according to the pipe diameter), wire (copper core or aluminum core wire that meets engineering requirements), neutral lubricant (such as talc powder, special pipe lubricant), marker, scissors. Tools are prepared in advance to avoid frequent interruptions in operation.
The first step is to check the condition of PE pipe. Before threading, be sure to check whether the inner wall of the PE pipe is blocked (such as sediment and debris entering during construction), and whether the pipe wall is damaged or sharp protrusions - these will jam the threader or scratch the wire. You can use a flashlight to shine from one end to the other to observe the situation inside the pipe; if there is a blockage, clean it up with iron wire or compressed air.
Step 2, Measure and mark. Use a tape measure to measure the length of the PE pipe, and mark the starting and ending points of the threading with a marker at both ends of the wire to avoid threading too long or too short. At the same time, mark the threading direction at both ends of the PE pipe to prevent confusion.
Step 3, Lubrication treatment. Although the inner wall of the PE pipe is smooth, the friction will still increase the difficulty of threading when the long distance or the pipe diameter is small. You can dip a dry cloth in a neutral lubricant and wipe the surface of the threader evenly; you can also pour the lubricant into one end of the PE pipe and gently shake the pipe to make the inner wall adhere evenly - be careful not to use oily lubricants, which will corrode the PE pipe material.
Step 4, the threader guides. Slowly push the front end of the threader (usually a curved tip) in from one end of the PE pipe. Keep a constant speed when pushing. Don't push hard when encountering resistance. You can gently rotate the threader to adjust the angle, or pull it back a little before continuing. When the other end of the threader is exposed from the PE pipe outlet, fix the two ends of the threader with your hands to avoid retraction.
Step 5, pull the wire. Connect one end of the wire to the end of the threader firmly - it can be wrapped with insulating tape for 3-5 turns, or fixed with a special connecting buckle to ensure that it will not fall off when pulling. Then slowly pull the threader from the exit end of the PE pipe, while the person at the other end gently pushes the wire, cooperate with the force, and avoid the wire from knotting in the pipe. When the marking point of the wire reaches the exit of the PE pipe, stop pulling.
Step 6, Finishing and Fixing. Remove the wire from the threader and check whether the wire is scratched or broken - if so, replace it in time. Then organize the wire, leave the two ends with a suitable length (usually 15-20 cm), and fix it on the wall or wire pipe fixing frame with wire cards or cable ties to avoid the wire from loosening.
Finally, some practical precautions: when threading long distances (more than 50 meters), you can thread in sections, and each section is connected with a threader to reduce resistance; if the PE pipe has bends, the threader should choose a glass fiber material with good flexibility to avoid getting stuck at the bend; if you encounter an unsolvable card during threading, you can open the middle joint of the PE pipe (if any), check the internal situation and then continue.
In fact, the core of PE pipe threading is "shun" - follow the direction of the pipe, follow the characteristics of the material, and do a good job of preparation and detail processing to avoid most problems.
