In municipal drainage, sewage transportation and other projects, wound structural wall pipes (often called carat pipes) are widely used due to their high ring stiffness and good sealing. However, the quality of pipes on the market is uneven. Mastering the following purchasing skills can help you control the quality from the source.

Take a look at the raw materials and appearance. High-quality carat pipes are usually made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) as the main raw material. The inner and outer walls of the pipe are uniform in color, showing a natural black and bright luster, and there are no bubbles, depressions or obvious impurities. You can touch the inner wall with your hands. It is better to be smooth and flat. Those with obvious roughness often add too much recycled material, which is easy to crack after long-term use.

Second, look at the structural compactness. The core advantage of the carat tube is its wound hollow reinforcing rib structure. When purchasing, you can observe the incision at the end of the tube to see if the fusion of the reinforcing rib and the tube wall is tight and whether there are delamination or voids. Pipes with dense structure and uniform weld marks have more stable resistance to external pressure and are not prone to ring stiffness attenuation.

Three matching ring stiffness on demand. Ring stiffness is a key indicator to measure the external pressure resistance of pipes. Common specifications are SN4, SN8, SN10, SN12.5, etc. When purchasing, you can't blindly chase height, but should determine the appropriate grade by the design unit according to the depth of burial, backfill soil quality and road load. Excessive ring stiffness will increase unnecessary costs.

Choose the right connection method. Common connections for carat pipes include socket-type fused connections, socket-type sealing ring connections, and heat shrinkable belt connections, etc. The fused connection has strong integrity and is suitable for sewage pipe networks with extremely high sealing requirements. The sealing ring connection construction is fast and easy to install on site. It should be comprehensively selected according to the engineering geological conditions and construction progress, and it should be confirmed that the material of the connectors is consistent with the pipe body.

Ask for an authoritative test report. Regular products should provide type inspection reports and batch factory test reports, focusing on ring stiffness, ring flexibility, impact strength and oxidation induction time. The oxidation induction time reflects the anti-aging performance of raw materials, and the value should not be lower than the standard requirements. This is an important reference for whether the pipe can be used for more than 50 years.

By mastering these five points, from raw materials, structure, performance to connection and testing, we can choose a truly reliable product among the many wound structural wall pipes, laying a solid foundation for the engineering drainage system.
