The terrain of Xiangyang urban area is flat, and heavy rainfall during the flood season can easily cause local waterlogging, which affects citizens' travel and the normal operation of the city. In the recently launched urban waterlogging control project, plastic bellows have become the core pipe material for improving the layout of drainage pipes.

Compared with traditional pipes, plastic bellows have the characteristics of light weight, strong pressure resistance and corrosion resistance. They are suitable for the complex underground pipeline environment in urban areas and can be flexibly laid in different areas such as old residential areas and main and secondary arterial roads. The project team combined the distribution of water accumulation points in urban areas with the status quo of the original pipe network to re-plan the drainage path and use large-diameter plastic bellows to connect the original branch pipes to build a primary and secondary drainage network.

In the renovation area of the old community, the construction personnel took advantage of the flexibility of the bellows to complete the pipeline laying in the narrow underground space, without the need to excavate a large area of the road surface, which not only reduced the impact of the construction on the lives of residents, but also accelerated the transformation progress. For the main roads that are prone to water accumulation, by adding bellows drainage pipes, the efficiency of rainwater collection and transportation can be improved, effectively alleviating the problem of water accumulation on the road during the flood season.

At present, the project has completed the laying of pipelines in several key areas, and the improved drainage system will significantly enhance the urban rainwater drainage capacity, create a safer travel environment for citizens, and help improve the quality and upgrade of urban drainage infrastructure.
